Default Plenty of life in 'em...

Put my new 20s on yesterday, these are the inside edge of the 19s that came with the car... I was doing er... reasonable speeds on these last week. Tread depth was OK across the rest of the tyre. I guess it's tracking that needs looking at.

How old were these tyres and how many miles do you think they have covered.

I had similar wear issues on my D3 which came up at the MOT a couple of years back, the inside tread was really bad. I thought tracking as well, but it was checked and found to be ok. I replaced my front tyres with budget tyres as I was expecting them to wear out quickly, but 2 years and 13K miles later they are both wearing evenly with no suspension adjustments done between either set.

The car passed an MOT when it was sold to me 3 months ago. I've done 4.5K miles since then, I can't imagine I've took the tread off down to the threads in that space of time, it's mostly motorway and then pottering over hill and dale in 40mph traffic, not lapping Indianapolis.

I'll be doing 1000 miles next week so timing of the new 20s was very apt!

I could be wrong but it is my impression that D2s like to wear the inside edge more than rest of the tyre.
I never had it as bad as you but over the life of the tyre it looks like the inside edge gets worn more. Happened on my previous D2 too, an that's after tracking.
Although maybe they go out of alignment over time?

All quattro cars have a tendency to odd tyre wear in my experience. My last A6q would 'cup' its rear tyres, leaving the tread blocks looking like saw teeth. At the point it sounded like I had a bad bearing I'd swap them side to side and wear them flat again.

My first D2 liked Michelins - it would get 36K a set and wear all four perfectly. I put Avons on it once and it destroyed the inner edge in 5K. Back to Michelins, all good again. No change in alignment.

These days I tend to get bored of the wheels before the tyres wear out

Same here, nice even wear on Michelins and also the Bridgestones I had a few years back.
My winter tyres, currently Pirellis, are equally good.

Can't recall any brands that were anything remotely as bad as the examples here, and I got my first D2 in 2002.

I always go for Asymmetric tyres though, never rotational, could that be a factor?

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
