I wonder if any charging issues are a population density (ie South East England) one predominantly? Or if it’s the Daily Wail making a mountain out of a molehill (more likely, I suspect!)

I’m quite taken with the Ionic 5 but our use case just doesn’t justify the outlay at the moment - I’ve got £25-30k tied up in 2 petrol cars, but one of those costs buttons to run and isn’t really depreciating. If the tax benefits applied to us I think it’d be easier to justify but neither of us get a company car/allowance

Its absolutely mountains out of molehills, combined with a large number of new owners that maybe don't realise all the other options they have for charging their car elsewhere or later on, other than sitting in that queue.

People seem petrified of EV's succeeding. Any negativity surrounding them is hot news and circulates faster than prince Harrys latest fancy dress outfit.

Anything positive is swept under the carpet and considered unbelievable tosh by anyone that drives a dinosaur powered vehicle.

I've stopped responding to comments about Teslas and EV in general. I'm happy to chat to people that have, or have had EV's, but so many people assume what its like based on insanely biased media coverage that its so hard work I no longer have the energy to explain the truth.

Has Elon got somewhat distracted by the whole Twitter thing. Yes, probably. Does it make the Tesla any worse. Nope. Does it make other EVs worse. Nope again. His mission was to get the planet using EV's, Tesla or otherwise and given the quantity of number plates I'm seeing with a green band on these days, I'd say he's achieved that.

Do I care about the environment ? More than I used to, for sure. Are EV's the answer? No. But I think they help reduce pollution by using some green energy for transport and move it out of densely populated areas. Do I hug trees and chant I love Greta 3 times a day? Definitely No. Did I buy it because it goes like poo off a shovel, is 4 wheel drive, gets regular updates with new tech for free and is very very tax efficient ? 10000%.

Folks can buy one. Or not buy one. It literally makes no different to me..

A lot depends on location.

Supercharger in Northampton next to M1 that I use very often is very busy. I often drive within 50 metres from it so I just pop in and top up whenever I am passing, it's free so why not? It has 6x gen 2 stalls which are sharing power in pairs and only get half charging speed when sharing. There are cars queuing almost every day 8-10am and 2-5pm. The Christmas week was very busy, couple of times there was 4+ cars queuing. I think part of the problem is that MK supercharger is only accessible going South so people going North have to use Northampton. But I think there is another one coming soon in MK on the other side of M1 so that should provide some relief. There was one scheduled for Kettering for September 2022 which I would be passing about 200 meters away almost every Saturday but got cancelled, I think because EVN Network is making 24 vehicle charging station on A14 by the Kettering.

There is also another Tesla SC scheduled for Q1 2023 on the other side of Northampton so that should provide some relief as well and it's nearer to me, almost close enough just to pop over for free charge not only when passing.

But when using other superchargers I almost never had to wait, Rugby, Wyboston, MK that I used fairly often. Going South around London had to wait couple of times like 1-2 cars so not too bad.

On another note there have been SCs pooping up over Europe as well and now I can make a 1600+ mile trip to Latvia on free Tesla superchargers as well. 28 h driving, 6 h charging according to route planner, £400 in diesel saved each way.

Actually even a bit better according to latest data

Question

[quote=Adrian E;171693

Main thing stopping us making the leap is the purchase price - I've never leased a car and don't particularly want to start now (having moved house 5 years ago we've just seen a big hit on our mortgage outgoings as it is), along with the stratospheric price of utilities......BIK etc doesn't benefit us as owner drivers[/QUOTE]

I never leased car as well, not event bought it on the loan before, most of my cars before Tesla have been cash under £3k. Leasing seem nuts to me, why pay 10%+ interest when you could just have a loan from bank for 3% and then use it to by a car.

Anyway I did take a loan to pay for part of Tesla. So say if you are saving £200-500 in fuel per month driving Tesla you might as well take a little loan to pay for part of it that costs similar per month to what you save in fuel. And if you are paying 3% interest while the inflation is 10%+ it's like you are being paid for borrowing

One thing I have noticed whilst online shopping/researching for a daily, it's noticeable that Tesla seem (to me at least) to be getting less expensive second hand, an inevitable outcome of the amount sold adding to the supply I guess.

I'm not interested in the M3, but it's had a knock on affect on MS values too, so they are now on my 'maybe' list

For MS values, this is simply due to the fact that new RHD MSs are now/shortly being shipped to the UK, after an absence of over two years.

https://electrek.co/2022/12/13/tesla...urope-2-years/

A complete absence of *any* of this model has doubtless held up prices during this time - e.g. Mark's P100D was sold for not far short of its new price by R Symons.

Maybe so

I'm seeing MS with sensible mileage, P75 and P85 as recent as 2018 registrations for sub-£40k - I just prefer the seats in the MS (placebo maybe) but also having an instrument panel behind the wheel

Default Anyone still believe VAG can compete with Tesla?

VWs latest offer in EVs: a "concept" car - due in 2025 - with this video basically confirming that the ID3,4, and 5 have failed.
