Not sure given the different fuel consumption, rev range and torque curve; easy enough to try it though.

I don't know what you've got, but I drove a D3 4.0TDi for about 6 months and was very happy with the way engine and transmission worked together - and fuel consumption was minute compared to the S8 of course.

I have a D3 3.0TDi with a chip installed which gives a few more horses and a fair bit more torque.

I just feel it could go into 6th before 2k revs and still be fine.

Can't remember if there's a D3 coding for the gearbox or not... pretty sure mine drops into 6th before 2k, but it's a 4.2tdi.

Well this thread is in the D2 section and there's no D3 equivalent, so maybe not.

Had another spin this evening, I definitely like the 00111 coding.
(I kept flicking into "tip" just to confirm what gear it was in, and was always happy)

As A8 Doc (same car & year as me I think) said at the start of this thread

Just to add that I have made the exact same change on my FL S8 and so far so good. See this thread: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...8620#post68620

The ECU is a 4D0 927 156 EC if that's of any relevance/interest; my PF was the same but version BL.

I've just this minute changed my code to 00131 and what a difference. It just stays in gear and only changes when I want it to. No more kickdown changes as well. This will be much better on track days.

I did try 00111 but that was no different than the original coding.

I'm a happy bunny.

Default Recoding from 00101 to 00111

After reading this thread I thought that i would see if this made a difference so in an idle moment, I have just re-coded the transmission from 00101 to 00111. Just had a quick once aqround the block to check all was OK (it was) before stting off in an hour to pick up son from airport. I have already noticed that it changes down earlier when the throttle is depressed so look forward to the 30min drive to the airport. Unfortunately, the speed limiter will be with me.

mmmm... thats good. It is far more responsive to throttle demands by dropping one gear whereas before it always seemed reluctant to downshift until I hit the kickdown button whereupon it dropped 2 gears and took off like a startled gazelle.

Now, if it also delivers a 20% increase in fuel economy.....
