whos going to be the first to put a LS3 in a 8?
Just been reading up about engines for fun, I have to say I prefer the simpler design of the American pushrod. Plust they sound great
I would love to put a LS3 with a Tremec 6 speed in my S8. Or at least I would love to see someone else do it. A LS3 is much cheaper than I thought, £4350 from the UK. And it's quite a good powerplant, and very common here in the USA. I'd personally drop the coin on an LS7 or LS9 though, they have 505 hp and 630 hp output, respectively, and are unbelievably reliable as well, and they take very well to modification. The LS9 is factory supercharged, and a simple pulley change and tune can get you into the 750 bhp range.

I was looking at the LS7 as well, amazing engine. Its a bit more pricey and I couldnt find a readily available source in the UK. I know some guys on here were looking at supercharging the Audi V8, I think they are better of with a LS3 or LS7, LS9 V8, could turn out cheaper and more powerful. Also they have cast iron cylinder sleeves, I'm no engineer but iron sounds better than Alusil coating.

Here is a better picture of the offending part in LS3 (and LS7 I beleive). Same as Audi, and pretty much every other manufacturer, they used some sort of nylon, which sometimes brakes at engine temperature.
Its a real shame because there are better materials out there such as Stanyl Diablo (recently selected by Fiat) and Duratron CU60. And here is the thread advising replacement with the LS1 chain dampner. Shame because the LS3 tensioner looks like a better design because its keeping tension on the chain not just preventing vibration and jumping. http://ls1tech.com/forums/generation...work-pics.html If I ever have the money to get a LS3 this is the first part I would change before the engine went in the car.
