Odd Braking Feeling...
... in the last couple of days, when I've first taken the car out (this morning and yesterday afternoon) the brakes felt a bit like the servo wasn't working. I had to press the padal very hard and still got little braking effect. But after 100 yards or so, trying the brakes a few times, everything returns to normal. It's a 2002 S8 BTW.
It's not cold here anymore and all the snow has gone, so I don't think it's weather related. Any ideas? The car is in the garage just now getting tyres on the winter wheels and having the self-levelling headlights checked and I mentioned the brakes, but nothing sprang to mind. So if you've been here before, perhaps you'd point me in the right direction? |

My first thought is a vacuum leak to the servo; or the servo is failing.

But why would it get better after a couple of minutes?

Maybe an ABS related issue? Pump not activating properly, causing hard pedal, then once it gets through its self test, it comes back to life?
I assume nothing's come up on the scan?

Could be Richard. Maybe an output test with VCDS on the ABS system will show something.

Nothing obvious from the garage inspection other than the pads are really mucky with salt and grit. Only done 10 miles since I finished work a few days before Xmas, so maybe all the c**p from the roads has caused a film on the pads/discs? And nothing on the self-levelling headlamp arms either. Gonna call A4Audi to see if they can do a scan tomorrow....
