It's verging on criminal to over tighten them to that degree! That's proper rattle gun job done on max torque....

Always comforts me when a tyre fitter/mechanic appears to know what a torque wrench is intended for

That looks like a Ford locking wheel bolt & nut.

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Had a close one on my D3 with the same daft locking nut, thankfully it wasn't too chewed and my local place managed to straighten it enough to get it to engage.

One very good reason I stick with my mobile tyre man, he always uses a torque wrench to set them properly.

And to be fair my local independent garage are the same, they even detail the wheel refitting and torque settings on the signoff sheet they give you.

Still got one left to get out.......

..... but I scored another key today at a scrapyard close to work. When I enquired I was led to a corner of their workshop where there is a plastic crate about 2 feet in all directions full of various wheel nut keys!

He found me a chair and another crate to sort them into. Took about 15 minutes and 1/3 of the crate to find the right one. It's in good shape. Hope it's feeling strong! If it works it was £ 5 well spent!

Question is, do I try myself or go to a tyre fitter with a big rattler gun

Nick

i would be tempted to use an impact gun. then you can lean into the socket and ensure it doesnt rise and slip off

good luck with the final one

It's off! Big breaker bar did the job.

That's a relief!

Now I can investigate why this wheel (Right rear) has 4.5mm toe in and 2º negative camber....

probably caused by the torque from when they put the wheel nuts on!!
