Well I must be one of the 'Lucky Few' then because I have had my RNS-E/TV Tuner in for over 2 years now...thanks CraigyB!

A question though for you guys with TV Tuner - although mine works 100% when I scan the car I always get the following error;

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 57: TV Tuner Labels: None
Part No SW: 4D0 919 146 C HW: 4D0 919 146 C
Component: TV Tuner H02 0430

VCID: 295DB42DF992

1 Fault Found:

Not sure if this is normal or not because as I say it works perfectly but it would be nice to find out exactly what the coding should be as it does not seem to be listed in the VCDS labels...

Thanks & kind regards,

Hi Clive,

That's far too easy!

Honest answer...no...not yet...even though I did spend half a day with Craig the week before last while he was doing a Concert to RNS-E conversion along with BT, iPod & cruise control in a friends A4.

I have even exchanged emails and had a quick chat on the 'phone about other stuff since...

I wanted to see if I could resolve this myself without bothering him although I know he would help if I only asked.

I was hoping someone else in here with RNS-E in their S8 might know what their TV Tuner is coded for?

Plan B it is then...

Thanks & kind regards,

Awesome write up! Glad mine's had most of this done already, otherwise I don't think I'd be doing it

I gather my bluetooth module is up above the glovebox, so what I have in the boot is almost certainly the OE CD changer, TV module and old skool mobile module?

I tried the TV reception yesterday and it's pretty lousy - not helped by the fact we've got lots of digital services locally. I only pick up 3 analogue channels and reception on those is pretty poor. Given mine is a 2002, I'm assuming I have a Type B tuner and hopefully aerials capable of dealing with digital reception? Is there anyway to check for sure without major interior surgery?

Would the TV tuner have been replaced at the time of the RNS-E install, or can you plug the original RNS-D compatible TV tuner back in?

Million dollar question - how 'plug and play' should fitting a digital capable TV tuner with my current setup? What part number/version whatever of TV tuner do I need to search ebay for?

Many thanks in advance

Adrian

ok:

1) The RNS-D tuner wont work with the RNS-E, you need an RNS-E specific tuner.

2) If you already have an RNS-E, and it has the TV working to a fashion, then its a safe bet that the tuner was changed. This is a good thing, as its a very different wiring loom and would take some effort to run it to the back of the car.

3) The RNS-E digital hybrid tuner is a straight swop for the RNS-E analogue one, the cables are identical for the power/can etc, although the hoods around the aerial connections might be slightly different. The hoods come off though and the SMB's plug straight in. I change my D2 between digital and analogue tuners quite a few times

4) You would have had a type B tuner on a 2002 car, but I cant believe that it still working, so you must have something different in there now.

As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, post up what you have and I'll try and help

Cheers Ian

I should have the car back from the bodyshop the end of the week, so I'll be able to grap a pic then and maybe find a part number. Don't have any of the boot area without the covers in place.

Sounds like mine's been changed, so that's a bonus, even if it is only analogue.

I have definitely seen attempts at picking up TV channels on the screen and the TV button on the RNS-E does generally bring up some fuzzy stuff and a channel number!

It's only taken me 4 months, but finally dug out the part number for the TV tuner hooked up to my RNS-E - I've got a 4D0919146D which I'm assuming is analogue only, judging by the range of channels available to me?

If Ian or anyone else can advise of suitable part numbers for hybrid/digital TV tuners I'd be very grateful. I presume the part number changes depending on reception type?

I saw one on ebay advertised as 'MOST', but no idea what that means but have a feeling it related to later cars?

Cheers

Adrian

Adrian,

Hybrid TV tuner for RNS-E is 8J0 919 148 C.

Last letter changes with each year, which means 8J0 919 148 without "C" will work too.

If you upgrade from RNS-D your tuner side 54pin connector will match. You will need to buy two FAKRA housings to convert antennas from your old tuner to new hybrid one: 4E0 035 672 K. It will cost about 3 pounds ftom Audi.

You will need to modify RNS-E side connector ftom legacy RNS-D connector to RNS-E connector. See this thread: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2982

Oops, you already have RNS-E and RNS-E analog tuner. This should be plug and play with the part number I've provided.
