Default Driving issues

If footwell is wet then definitely blocked scuttle drains...furthermore relays and electrical bit all in passenger under carpet so will be effected.....I would check if te battery is charging when engine started cos if lights are flickering then could be failing alternator....

Hence I would check for water aroun te ecu area/ dry out passenger footwell and then check alternator is charging battery...then u should find your problem...

May I suggest fuel. I know with fuel they normally cut out and don't restart but how much is the gauge showing? If it's about 1/4 it could be someone has had the fuel pump out and it has not reseated properly. Or, as mine was when I collected it, the fuel gauge is incorrectly calibrated and it is empty while still showing more then 1/4 tank.

I think it would be worth investing in 5 litres of fuel and chucking it in to see if that helps.

Cutting out at load would suggest fuel starvation Could be dying fuel pump, blocked fuel filter,FPR stuck open or simply running out of fuel.

Last post by ainarssems nailed it.

Fuel starvation. The pump is on its way out. It appears that anything less than 2/3 of a tank causes it to not run right.

Figured it out eventually. 180 miles later, with a full tank and I made it home.

Other than that problem, I bought an excellent car. Drives like a dream & is in great condition with FSH despite high miles.

How much is a fuel pump?...

Dealers does not sell fuel pump on it's own only whole fuel delivery unit which is around £800. You can get VDO pump on it's own which is the same like original pump for around £120

If the problem only persists on half empty tank and it runs fine with full tank there is a possibility that some work has been done on fuel pump, possibly changed pump and it was not correctly seated in tank. Very easy to put it in incorrectly if you do not know what you are doing. Have seen it fitted incorrectly on several occasions.

I work in a motor factors so will probably be able to get the VDO pump at our company cost, so that would be a help.

There is at times a faint whiff of fuel at times, I suspect it won't have been changed due to the difficulty of having to do the job.

Can I get the pipes needed separately from A8parts or anyone? I had a look online there but I'm not 100% what exactly il need.

The hooky VW parts site i use is currently down so I can't see a parts breakdown/diagram

A8 parts should be able to sort you out a fuel pump quite easily
