I suggest the first thing you do is ascertain EXACTLY which ZF box you have
just looked through our hosts list of boxes for used boxes for sale , and they have a 97 one which they say is correct ...code DRD , which fits a range of audis ! if that IS correct they want £300 , don't know what sort of guarantee , if any ,they offer it's come off a V6 so probably had less strain Last edited by oldnick; 6th June 2015 at 08:09 PM. |

How do you determine what gearbox you have? That seems a reasonable price but I guess fitting is the expensive bit? I just about managed replacing the air blower myself, a gearbox may be a bit beyond me! I will call Vanmatic Monday and see what they say.

Build sticker in the boot or service book tells you the gearbox.
Engine code and gearbox code are on the same line.

Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

http://www.zf.com/na/content/media/u...tion_guide.pdf Which means (assuming the build sticker list things in tha same order) that Oldnick's transmission code is ECH (not EUT) ..... but ECH is not listed in the guide - perhaps a non-USA thing?

Just looked at the Service Manual for O1L boxes in the Tech Dump sticky (RTFM)! and it lists all transmissions and their codes. Whilst there is no "ECH" there IS an "ECX" which, giving the computer type face used for the build stickers could have been misread, perhaps? The ECX has a manufacture "from" date of 04.97 but no "to" date.

Whilst the ZF Tranmission Guide is USA specific, the service manual is for European vehicles.
