"Hi beam assist"
Had no idea what this was until I bought the S4 a few weeks back, which amongst its other collection of factory addons has had the rather unlavish sum of £75 spent on this newish feature.
The concept, it turns out (after reading the handbook), is that the main beam on the car is automatic - Turning itself off and on when needed. Now, I'm a considerate sort of chap and I'm quite keen not to blind other drivers so was a bit sceptical about this thing. Plus, its a bit like adaptive cruise - Once you have the option, you lose the normal ability to just have it on. The indicator stalk will no longer lock forward for main beam, it just momentary clicks forward and a headlight with an 'A' comes on the dash indicating auto main beam is active. So, the first few weeks it really annoyed me. I refused to drive into oncoming traffic with the main beam on to test it, yet found no other way to really build the confidence. Everything changed on Tuesday night coming home late from Birmingham. It was late, clear, dry and some nice B roads were coming up. The S4 is manual, so one hand on the stick and one hand on the wheel does in fairness makes the whole main beam on/off thing a bit more of a pain on these dark winter nights. So, decided to try it out properly and left the main beam on full auto from around the M62 all the way home. Annoyingly, it is quite brilliant. Quite OTT in an automatic car as you'll have a hand free to dip the lights, but in a manual its a god send. It dips the main beam in villages where there are street lights, dips the headlights when you come up behind someone and there are red tail lights and yes, it dips the headhights when it sees an oncoming car approaching in your line of sight. Not once did it leave the main beam on at a time when I would have turned it off, and its very quick to react, say round a corner or over the crest of a hill. Empowered with its £75 pound Hi beam assist, and significantly more expensive dynamic drivetrain enhancements it was probably the most exhilarating drive home I've ever had. Its not quite the quickest car I've ever had - That would be the RS6 - Just - But it is way way way more fun to drive. I'll do a full right up at some point soon as frankly, its worth it...

A fantastic car. I'm still hankering after one myself after having that loaner last Xmas.
They are totally chuckable, very pointable and have that wonderful, perfectly matched engine. I'd have to do something about the S4's B & O though. IMHO its pants
