Default 2002 FL 2.8 QS Intermittent Wipers & Keys

Afternoon All,

Going through the to do list on the A8 QS runabout.

Lovely old thing and in fact built 2002 but registered in 2003 so not many of those about.

Just fully serviced the old girl and done all the disks and pads all round so its a lot happier now. Gearbox booked in for a service also to ensure that's covered also to make everything as good as it can be.

Everything is working well apart from a couple of odd problems.

The first problem I have found is whilst the wipers work perfectly the intermittent does not, no matter what I set it to. They sweep once when I select intermittent but then nothing at all.

I suspect it may be the relay, does anyone have the number needed?

Secondly the keys work fine, unlock the car etc but the lock/ unlock is back to front. Most odd, so I went ahead and replaced the keys with two new ones as old ones were very worn and they still have the same problem. The chap who did it for me (Man in van, auto key chap) could not work it out either.

Hence I thought I would seek the wisdom of the collective to see if anyone has ever had the same problem?

As always thank you.

Well that's very peculiar. Are the buttons completely reversed so lock / set alarm and unlock / unset alarm? Or does it lock / unset?

Part number for the wash/wipe relay is 4B0955531E. That's an A6 number so should be easy enough to find. Our sponsors probably have a box full of them.

In short yes, press the lock to unlock and hence unlock locks so a complete reverse of everything.

Not the end of the world but with three Audi’s it’s remembering this one is a little special.

Did try many things with the Auto Electirian over an hour and it really was not that straight forward. Hence we could only make the new keys behave like the original keys.

I'm sure there's an option in the lock coding that reverses those functions, but you'll need VCDS to check.

Edit, it's 16:
1 Rear boot unlock & opened (only some models e.g A4)
2 Flash indicators on activation of alarm
4 Security central opening (drivers door only opens not passenger) with key
8 Anti-theft alarm switched on
16 Cabriolet functionality on (reverse pump direction)
32 Auto lock doors when car goes above 15mph
64 Comfort opening/closing of windows
128 No ultrasonic installed (cabriolet has no ultrasonics)
256 Unknown (rear boot logic with remote A4 ?)
512 Radio control close confirmed with one flash
1024 Anti theft alarm set confirmed by horn beep
2048 US window logic (Power windows do not work once door opened)
4096 Radio control open confirmed with two flashes
8192 Radio remote control opening/closing activated
16384 No Security central opening (drivers door opening only) with remote

Thank you very much, appreciated.

I shall fire up VAGCOM and have a play over the weekend!

Its always the way when you buy a D2, a brilliant as they are they will always have a small list of jobs that need to be done to make them perfect.

Intermittent Wipers now all back and working

Its never a good sign when you see three types of screw holding on the MDF panel in front of the relay panel

Interestingly there was a grey VAG wipers *192 relay in its place, clearly was not well and now all replaced and working.

Three screws? Must be a special edition

Why would a cabrio need backwards central locking operation? I would never have figured it was just coding. Every day is a school day

It wasn't a time programmable relay was it?

I wonder if the pump has to be fitted a different way around to make room for the roof mechanism and motors.

Spent a little time on this one this afternoon looking at the central locking coding.

The A8 is set to 15210.

So if I add +16 it does indeed reverse the locking so the Lock button locks and the unlock button unlocks.

But...

This is still the wrong way round for the car, by this I mean when you unlock the Alarm goes on and when you lock the interior lights turn on.

So had a look at the S8 for reference and that's 15179 which makes sense as its got the boot opening and locking via speed set differently.

Interesting stuff, I wonder if the pipes on the pump have been put round the wrong way at some point.

That can be tomorrows job
