Default Hello locked out

Gents. I'm away from home with only 1 key with me

Went to lock the car and fob wouldn't work

Managed to lock with the key as a temporary measure. Expecting it to be a simple.fob battery change

Unfortunately that made no difference and now I can't even open with the key. It turns but doesn't unlock

Can get in the boot but no further

Any suggestions appreciated

The only paltry advice I can offer is that I know it takes a lot more effort to turn my key in one direction than the other. Not sure which way though, but I think it was when unlocking the car... which I had to do when my car key fob battery went home and I wasn't able to obtain a new battery at that time of night.

If your alarm fob is working but not opening the central locking, you could wind down the windows by pressing and holding the unlock button (if you have the close/open all feature enabled).

Hope you manage to sort it out.

From memory, I think it might be possible to unlock the car from the boot (or is that lock? ... I can't check to confirm right now). And that is assuming the central locking is working of course. I think you just turn the key in the boot lock a bit further in one direction.

Failing that, do you have a ski hatch and a very small child?

Just investigated this but am hampered by the fact that whilst my key fob works, the key won't operate the boot lock so I cannot confirm what mark says above. Hope you can get this sorted soon.

If you can get in the boot can you get a kindly soul to connect their battery to yours?
Probably a battery issue.
Similar thing happened to me battery went flat but I couldn't get into the boot either.
Actually thinking back I could unlock the drivers door manually just not the boot.

thanks for teh replies chaps, end result was that after a lot of wiggling the door finally opened with teh key.

interesting this weekend has seen a host of random electrical gremlins since then, ABS sensor errors, coolant level errors e.t.c so I'm thinking common thread is likely to be voltage

will report back once I've tried getting the fob working again but think i'll replace the battery and see if things settle down

Thanks for updating us all. I was wondering how you got on with the physical key. I suppose that because we all unlock/lock the car via the fob, the keyhole rarely sees much action. Mine seemed particularly reluctant to turn one way as mentioned previously. I think I squirted some WD40 in there to free things up and I've not had a problem since.

Re: battery voltage, I've had all sorts of weird errors with a dying battery (tested by Harry Halfords at 10.4V) and odd readings from my OBDEleven OBDII dongle after doing DTC code scans. I have now got a Yuasa Silver battery but there is a better version with lifetime warranty available.

well battery reads at 12.8V not running and 13.6V (which seems a little low) with teh engine running so not convinced its the battery after all

and to conclude the the saga of the key. got back swapped battery, nada

tried key relearn - nada

got spare that works out of safe, that works

in fit of peak tried key resync using teh 3rd spare key (thats has never worked since I had the car)

boff it relearns and works

so i now have 2 working keys again, just that one that did work now doesn't. one that never worked does

and yes i am 100 sure i took the right key with me as it has a different key ring

messing with my head

Sounds like you need to come along to one of our meets where Craig Nettleton from Auto Solutions is present to re-program and cut new keys for your car - he can delete and reconfigure non working keys and set up new ones if desired, normally for way way cheaper than Audi!

If your not getting 13+ volts at the battery with the engine running you may have an alternator issue. Try checking the voltage from the + terminal on the battery and ground on the bodywork to rule out a bad connection between battery - and the body. If your still not getting 13+ V measure between the alternator and body with engine running. If you're still not getting 13+ Volts then it may be an alternator issue
. First though swap in a known good battery that has been fully charged then do the above checks.
