Normally you just change fluid, strainer, o-ring and gasket. There is transmission oil in transfer box and differential, have not heard of anybody changing it but it surely would not harm to change. Usually it gets changed or topped up when output shaft seal starts leaking and is replaced. I think it is 80W90 GL4 but cannot check ATM.

Not specific to A8 gearboxes but in general some people take valve/solenoid block out and clean oil lines where possible and small metal mesh filters in there and generally clean anything accessible sump etc. Because if oil have not been changed for a long time dirt and gunk settles out and fresh oil lifts it all up but it clogs small mesh filters and you loose a gear or couple. That's the reason of myth that fluid change can kill You gearbox if it is on the way out other one being wrong fluid used. Many gearboxes that fail soon after oil change can be brought back to life with a good clean.
