Yesterday I did a nice wee 53 mile loop with 3875 feet of elevation on the single speed. Glasgow up the Crow Road over the Campsies and down the Tak Ma Doon Road, this gives me a weekly of 120 miles with 8000 feet of elevation all on the S/S

Looks fun.. Might just sign up.. Doing the Etape Loch Ness and Etape Caledonia the month before, and never done a century before.

I did think about the Etape Caledonia until I delved into it and discovered that the £65 fees are all for the organisers and not a single penny goes to the charity. Kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't want to be part of it. The only redeeming feature of Etape Loch Ness for me would be cycling down the A82 without any cars on the road, apart from that it doesn't look like it has much to offer...

Geez I sound like a grumpy old git but I just hate the thought of being ripped off to cycle especially when there is no challenge in it for me...

It's the closed roads bit that appeals to me, but definitely agree that £65 is a bit steep, though it is fantastically organised.

Not forgetting you will be cycling with another 5,499 cyclists on narrow roads. Fine if you manage to get out front but a bit of a nightmare if you get stuck in the pack

It's not that bad, the pulse starts help quite a bit, and after a mile or two, it's not too mobbed. The odd bunch of donkeys cycling across the road, but a quick shout and they move over.

Default Too cold for pictures

Out for my 3rd ride this week bringing the total up to 147 miles and 9834 feet of elevation all on the single speed

Today
52 miles 3200 feet of elevation and it was colder than a cold thing on a cold day. Great fun going up the Glennifer Braes with the snow and ice on the roads, my back wheel spinning and no forward movement from the bike, it was almost a backward slow motion moment.

Damn it was cold... Avg Temperature: 31.8 °F... Min Temperature: 28.4 °F

Nice 34 mile cycle out to the base of the Campsies this morning

A bit grey and overcast with the sunshine peeping out from the clouds every now and then, unbelievably warm though for December
