2000 D2 2.8 Sport Facelift Dashboard Pixelation?
Hi all
My dashboard clock and mileometer displays are fine on start up, but pixelate after a period of driving, becoming unreadable. The main central display is fine. My research so far appears to suggest there is no simple fix and the whole instrument cluster would need to be replaced. Is that correct? Any other possible solutions at all? Thanks

Its a very common problem on the 2000 model year across many VDO clusters, BMW etc too.
As the mileage is very difficult to correct, and the immobiliser is also built into the cluster, changing the cluster is deemed too much work by most. I don't recall anyone fixing the pixels, let alone doing it easily. Its a 16 year old problem now, so most people have just accepted it and live with it....

On D3 mileage and time lcds are a separate screens same as on D2 ??
Their function is only to display, they don't hold any information or settings ?? Is it not possible just to use another cluster as a donor and replace just them two little screens??

They can be repaired by a specialist. I had a badly pixellated DIS and managed to get it swapped with a screen from a donor car. Not a cheap process, depends on how fussy you are about the car?
Same could be done with the other displays. I'm trying to get one of the heater displays replaced at some stage as the passenger side one has the same fault.

On the way up to Prestige Motors last week I also noticed my odometer started to look pixelated. I hadn't noticed it before but because the journey was a long one, the display (and the interior of the car) had time to warm up.
I also have some pixels missing off the passenger side HVAC temp display. There was a site that I came across but I didn't read the site too well at the time as I think I got distracted with something else. This is it It may not have a solution to the odometer pixels but it's worth a quick scan to see what they can do. And perhaps an email to them might get you some answers. As for me? Well, I'm just living with it at the moment.
