Default MOT time again.....

Here we are 12 months on from my last A8 MOT.

Cant believe its been that long already, but time passes along. During these last 12 months the car has covered 8K miles and had some work completed which should ensure it flies straight through this years test.

However, the rules changed a few weeks ago regarding things like the check engine light. Most of you know that my CEL spends more time lit these days than off, and can stay off for weeks or pop back on after just a few miles.

I'll have to hope that the light will stay off long enough for the test after I clear it again. I am sure everything else will be fine, just worried about that stupid light which is being caused by a very intermittent lambda fault on one bank and CATS below efficiency.

Ask them to let you know if it comes on during the test and if they'll let you reset it - can't see it being an issue so long as it stays off long enough to do the emissions test and that it passes whether the light is on or off.

Having said that I've not read/seen the new testers manual yet with the amendments so for all I know it may specifically forbid it being fiddled with while it's having the test conducted!

presuming it doesn't come on again immediately after you have reset , why not turn up at the test station a little early , reset the light , cross fingers

I'll be keeping the fingers crossed. Hopefully being done next week, although I have been advised from a tester that the engine light is not testable and its just ABS, ESP, Airbag lights that are testable.

Well, its booked in for this Friday (19th). Keeping fingers crossed all should be good, they are also replacing the rotten exhaust sleeves which is the last outstanding issue from the service done at the same garage who are doing the MOT.

And the verdict is...... PASSED.

But I have a nice list of advisories, that will require attention in the future.
-----------
Offside Steering Rack Gator deteriorated.

Offside Front anti rollbar linkage, rubber mounting deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.

Power steering pipe slightly corroded

Nearside rear lower suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

Offside rear lower suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.
--------
There are two more with regards to the exhaust, but these have already been dealt with, because the car was MOT'd before the exhaust sleeves were replaced.

So she has another 12 months of MOT, and some more expense at some point to fix the above items.

Oh, and the emissions were perfect and well below the limits.

Fast Idle
CO = 0.01% Vol, Limit = 0.2% vol
HC = 8 PPM, Limit = 200 PPM
Lambda = 1.009, Limit = 0.97 to 1.03

Natural Idle
CO = 0.01% vol, Limit = 0.3% vol

Well done Manny!
Well I know the list looks long on the advisories but there's nothing too major there and they do rather try to cover themselves liability wise with advisories these days at a lot of MOT places
Hope to catch up soon, are you coming to the forest of dean to the annual meet?

Can't make the forest of dean sadly, its just a couple of days before me and the A8 depart the UK for a mammoth 4,500 mile trip to the Costa Del Sol and back again.

I would have come to this Sundays A8 Parts meet, but I cannot justify 2 tanks of petrol at the moment either.
