Default Fuel prices - Write to your MP!

A new campaign has been launched today to stop fuel tax going up again, and if any of you would like to help, you can read all about it on the petrolprices web site:

http://www.petrolprices.com/itsyourduty/

The aim is to stop another 2p fuel duty hike, to get the Government to explain how our fuel tax is spent, and to demand that fuel tax is spent on improving transport in the UK.

If you feel strongly that fuel prices are getting a tad ridiculous again then have a look! Cheers all. . . .

Written to Geraldine, for what its worth.
I spend vast amounts on fuel and really, really don't want to see £1 plus per litre again

Dear Geraldine Smith,

As a UK tax payer and full time professional I work hard for a living
and have as part of that employment, the need to drive for business
purposes

Ahead of this years budget I urge you to consider and lobby hard
against a tax hike in petrol prices

there is no justifiable reason that petrol can be reduced, and then
hiked up again at this rate, when one looks at similar prices in the
EU.

Please, don't make prices over a pound pr litre again, people are
supposed to be feeling the economic assistance caused by other
measures, but what use is low interest if it is all put back into a
petrol tank

Yours sincerely,

Simon Harper

I understand and share your concern about this matter. I have already
raised it with the Chancellor and will wait and see what is in the
budget later today.

Kind regards

Geraldine Smith

Heres the answer I got from my "Wonderful" Labour MP Anne Snelgrove -
Don't laugh. . . no really dont!

"Today's budget is building Britain's future. It is a budget for jobs and targeted investment in a strong recovery.

To answer your concerns surrounding fuel duty, I had held discussions with the Chancellor and the Prime Minister before today's budget, and they acknowledged that during these current economic climate times are hard. That is why the Chancellor announced that an increase in fuel duty of 2 pence per litre would come into affect on 1st September 2009, when the recovery of the economy is predicted. From 2010 to 2013 an increase of a 1 penny per litre in real terms will be implemented.

This increase will allow the Government invests in initiatives that will allow British businesses to grow and survive the economic climate

With best wishes .. . . . "

Ahem.. . . . sorry I have something in my throat
well you all heard it first here - the economy will recover in september this year and if they get back in there will only be 1 penny per litre rise in 3 years of Government! I thank youuuuuuuu
