Rain Tracker arrived today. First impression is that everything seems pretty high quality and well-made. I'm dissapointed it doesn't include some kind of channel or trim to cover the wire running down the windshield to the sensor. I'll figure something out on that front, perhaps an OE VW/Audi part, or something else. I'm also not a fan of the button providedto disable the system, may try to find something OEM Audi/VW for that as well but it isn't a priority given where I'm mounting it anyway.. I'll have photos up soon.

Looking at the headlight wiring there is about three ways to go about it, I'm just trying to determine which is best at this point.

The Raintracker site has some pictures and, to be frank, it looks abit naff in their photo but i believe it can be made more discrete. What is interesting is that even though it uses IR wavelength detection (see "how rain tracker works" on the site), it appears to be able to cope with windscreens that are designed for solar absorption and, hopefully, the built in heater element in the windscreen.

Actually, mounted it will look about like stock. The plastic has a similar pattern to the molded plastics in our cars, like the homelink control on the visor. On the windshield side the glue looks like crap, I'm going to add a black painted area on the glass to make it appear more stock. As I said before I'll need to find a channel for the wire.

I didn't realize how far down the shaded strip on the windshield went. I'll be mounting the sensor low on the windshield I think.

I don't know... Here (http://www.raintracker.com/rt_more_info.php) it looks awful IMHO.

How about transplanting this system from another model of Audi? D2's mirror isn't attached to windshield, so perhaps it helps.

might you be able to get a later sensor unit from a D3 or D4 and use that?
They've usually got a one piece cover that hides all that gubbins a lot better
