I hear Tesla are closing all their showrooms and going online; good to get the insurance claims in while you can to save worrying about site resale value : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-47427311

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Not far from us, that showroom. Used to be a Merc dealer, but was empty for years before Tesla moved in.

Will be interesting to hear what the investigation identifies as the likely cause.

If those price cuts are coming to UK it makes model 3 much more appealing @£26.5k, it's actually sometihng I may consider.

Default The market clearly thinks so....

Tesla is now worth more than VAG

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51214824

Plus they're more reliable than any VAG - or for that matter any German or European - brand.

https://www.whatcar.com/news/2019-wh...-brands/n20069

So...to answer Jim's original thread question: probably.

I'm not convinced their crash structures are quite there yet, if a datsun can do this.....

https://www.grandtournation.com/cars...ssan-gt-r/amp/

Joking aside, assuming the Tesla wasn't a cut and shut, and that the speed involved was less than a million mph, that level of damage is scary and if not be happy putting my kids in thr back row!

Seriously? A 30 second scan of that link makes it clear the Nissan GT-R (hardly a "Datsun"...) "flew" through the lights, its driver was hospitalised, and the Tesla occupants were unharmed, unsurprisingly.

This is more relevant and accurate: https://www.businessinsider.com/tesl...19-2?r=US&IR=T

Yes seriously. Clearly the gtr was being driven by a loon, was smashed up, front end destroyed and injuries sustained. Pretty much what you'd expect.

But I think the fact that the driver of the Tesla wasn't hurt was down to their position in the front seat, and a side impact (yes a big impact maybe) ripped the car in half.... I don't think anyone unfortunate enough to have been seated in the back would have walked away, 5 star crash rated or not.

I think it's safe to say that each of the cars involved saved lives. Just because a car has a 5-star NCAP rating does not mean it will withstand everything thrown (driven) at it. A quick Google will show instances of the aftermath of S8s, RS6s, Q7s and R8s being split in two, although I think the latter is designed that way to detach from the safety cell, and the RS6 had a fight with mother nature (a tree) and lost!
