I spent hours as a kid with mower engines, nice and simple to learn on and cheap but soon was knocking 2/3 a week out (engines that is, calm down Darren,).
I had a test bed set up in me mums garage where I ran mower engines for reliability tests and to try out tuning ideas. Made couple of supercharged ones (using centrifugal beer pumps), alcohol fuelled ones and once I started as an apprentice at RR I made a new cylinder head for a Briggs and Stratton 180cc 4 stroke that I gave rotary valves to and crude fuel injection. It was great!
I loved my youth! If only I had the time now I have the facilities I've got at my disposal!
I then supercharged my 4stroke moped when I turned 16 and also my mates Metro, but that was using the innards of a Hoover Turbo with the windings removed from the motor. - good times!
