had a mishap some time ago with a refillable dehumidifier, which spilt onto my (mint) reat seat & trashed it to the point of having to replace it! (thankyou to my daughter!)

Though my mysterious 'damp woes' are in my rear footwell (o/s), and I can't seem to find the source of it ....

Well I'm pretty sure mine is down to blocked aircon drains BUT I do notice the rear n/s footwell is full of water....
To the extent that with my little handheld wet&dry dustbuster yesterday I got nearly a pint out of the carpet.

Now my car is parked on a slight tilt/slope and I think that the rear footwells are a bit lower than the front anyway and with the tilt to the left as well most of the overflow in my case is eventually finding it's way back there on the nearside.
I've also noticed a fairly wet section on the centre tunnel at the rear below the air vents there and suspect that's another way out for the water.
(see link earlier in this thread about draining excess water by inserting a thin copper tube into those vents and using a large bottle as a syphon trap)

Ah... now I think there was a post on audipages about that.. The drains fill up, empty into the vents for the rear passengers and it comes out of there if I remember rightly.

yeah mine was giving the kids a shower in the back from the rear vents when I turned on the air con, TBH you really need to sort this at source any attempt otherwise is wasting time, I know its PITA getting the trims off but have to recomend it as the only way to sort it, particularly when its not too cold this winter, also do the air hose pipe thingy under the air box and also the ones under the wheel arches too, my mats/carpets took about a week to dry out and that was agianst a radiator in our basement, I did post at the time thought about turning it into a sauna!!

Can you explain that please?

I certainly will do the main drains, PITA or not, it's just finding time at present!
And yes, my mats have been drying for about 3 days now. That foam backing really holds on to water!

And not having an air hose are there any other good methods for clearing?

see above post from me 1st January 2012, 10:16 PM with link to Audi pages which does it better than I could ever explain, I took mine down to local tyre fitter and he let me tape my pipe onto the end of his air hose, only takes about 5 mins, good tip though is to use brake pipe, available by length from motor factors, I tried it first with microbore radiator pipe and it wasnt flexible enough, the brake pipe is much more flexible

Ah yes, I've got that link bookmarked; just hadn't studied all the stages.
I think I'll take the side trims off ASAP and see what's what, make sure I've got appropriate vessels to catch any water and see if I can disconnect the drains.

Then I'll make a call to my friendly local mobile tyre fitter, who is based about 3 miles away and is always passing by.
(He knows he's got more business coming from me in the spring anyway - winter wheels coming off both cars and both really need new summer tyres all round as well! Loadsamoney! )
