Default A8 D2 4.2 Quattro Misfire

I really hope someone can help with this.

My 1995 A8 has developed a misfire. The fault code comes up with cylinder 5. I have checked the compression, changed the plugs, the coil packs and the ignition amplifier module. Each time the fault codes disappear and the car will run clean for a short while, then the problem reoccurs. It is right across the rev range and as the cat light will come on when the misfire occurs, I am guessing the car is still fuelling so it must be an ignition, rather than an injector problem.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully accepted.

I had similar symptoms when my fuel pump was on it's way out, and on that bank of cylinders. i.e. the ones on the return side of the fuel rail. That siad it was a multi miss on that bank.

I'm thinking it may be an injector problem
