I would go with the S8 hands down. It isn't any faster, but it feels and sounds it. The w12 is silky, executive smooth, but isn't a thrill to drive as the waves of torque are practical & efficient at gaining speed smoothly, not fun.

I've seen less than half a dozen W12 D3's with B&O. Of those exactly 1 was a SWB. The B&O arrived seemingly a few hours before the S8 started production and they stopped taking orders on the SWB W12. Really, I think the 1 I saw was probably the only one.

If B&O is a must (and I agree with you, it is) then its an S8 for you.

Just in case you think the LWB W12 can't be that bad, bear in mind it has a slower 0-60, not due to weight, but more due to different gearbox ratios that make sure its a little less sporty for the exec trying to digest his broadsheets in the back.

Also, the S8 comes with full extended leather, alcantara roof etc. The SWB W12 is surprisingly sparse on kit, so whilst there are a few loaded to the nuts, there are plenty base models out there too.

And my final word. Handling. I find the W12 nose heavy, especially relative to the lightweight lambo block of the S8....

Is it true that the SWB W12 has different gearing than the LWB? I think I remember reading somewhere that in top gear at 70mph the SWB sits around 3000rpm and the LWB around 2000rpm.

Also, I personally would prefer the W12 because I am scared of FSI
And W12 has more torque overall and more torque low down from 1000rpm, that must be a fun feeling.

Yes, if you want to avoid FSi, or gas convert, then the W12 is the 'simpler' option.

The low down torque on the W12 is very, very good, but you cant ever wind it up and make it show urgency. It just wafts up to cruising speed, briskly admittedly.

The S8 engine is so free revving it had to be driven to be believed. It can change revs like nothing I've ever driven. Kick down is like lightning on that thing, and its really very very addictive. It doesn't have the low down torque like the W12, but show it a lead foot and it will kick down, get revvy with it and make some serious progress nonetheless....

Both the V10's I've had were epic, and I really can't wait until I find myself the perfect RS6, which is the same engine, but with even more oomph..

As said I choose the V10 over the W12 and the cost was a third more.

I must find with them all though they lack torque and a pair of turbos are required! Hence me selling mine.

B&O is awesome.

If you do get an S8 V10, get some metal tie wraps and force open the valves. It's a free Milltek with the noise!

Ian, the 4.0 TFSi package is miles better

Avoid LWB W12, you will never ever sell it unless for peanuts. SWB W12 is the one with loads of toys.

Gassing a W12 is tricky and makes and engine that is cramped in there, even more cramped due to injector lines etc. And when I got a quote it was £3500 for the conversion. The numbers don't stack up. If you want economy get a 4.2 TDi derv burner.

We now have an LPG guy that can gas convert a W12 for only £1400 and the kit is very good and he does a nice job so that's worth considering also as I takes the equivalent mpg from 12-16 up to 24-32 based on current LPG prices

He did my current D3 4.2 LWB in Februay for only £1k so it's definately come down a fair bit. He's based in the Birmingham area but if anyone is seriously interested then pm me and I'll put you in touch with him.

The V10 S8, which has almost 400 ft lb of torque, being described as down on torque... Your loosing the plot
