Correct engine?
I’ve come across an A8 D2 fitted with the engine pictured, obviously it’s a 2.8 V6 but the engine cover and design appears completely different to all the other 2.8’s I’ve seen?
Does anyone know if this engine was fitted by Audi to the D2 A8, or has it possibly had an engine from a different Audi fitted?? |

That pic is of an A6. The 30V V6 was fitted to everything of that era and while there are loads of variants of it, the basic engine is the same. Chances are its just got different covers.

Great thanks, would that engine with that engine cover have been fitted to an A8 though? The A8 I’ve seen has that design fitted not the usual design I’ve seen previously on all the other A8 v6’s I’ve seen?

Don't get hung up on the cover - it has no relevance to the engine underneath it. The A6 in your picture likely has an AMX engine under the A6 cover, just as the A8 will have an AMX engine under the A8 cover. The Passat with the AMX engine will have a different cover again, as will the Skoda Superb
The 30V V6 is an extremely stout engine so its unlikely it has been swapped, but if you are concerned then find the engine number of what is actually in the car and we can compare it to what it came with from the factory. |

Or maybe the one you have seen in A8 was the early 1994-1995 car with 12V 2.8 AAH

It’s quite similar to the cover on my ack. It just says V6, not 2.8 V6, but has the same silver inlet bits and raised rear around them. The front doesn’t have the little extended lip but it’s a small picture so it’s hard to compare.
