worn brake pad warning light
Well other day this light came on. So new pads ordered, got them for steve and mate to put them on. Both pleased as it was the later style, so just spring to take off and pull back pistons. Well all went well all changed. Wow cant get over how much pad there is left even tho light came on, what a waste.
Any how all put together was told to go up road and test and get brakes working/bedded. Got in car as soon as i put it in gear light comes back up. They re took the wheels off to double check all was fine. Can anyone help .Why it should be still on. Does it need to be plugged into computer to reset it.???

It doesn't need plugging in. Although it may well be possible to code them out? i don't know.
The little plugs may be shot or have let water in and the connections are not very good or a wire has parted maybe. I get the same trouble normally as i'm driving, a few bumps and BEEP! One of my plugs has been damaged. I have seen a repair or it where you can wire it back to ground, obviously the only thing with that is it will never warn you of low pad wear agian but it's weather you need it too i suppose. |

The pad wear sensor light works on a closed circuit. As soon as the pad wears through the circuit the light comes on. If there is a break in the circuit anywhere the light comes on. You can short the contact in the connecters at each wheel arch to test if its the pads or not. After that it will be a break in the wiring somewhere and you'll just have to hunt it down.
Troubleshooting guide is here. You can bypass the circuit to switch off the light and there is a guide on Audipages showing how to do it here.

I think Conan is right Mel, sounds like the pads arent fully worn but that the wire somewhere on the way down to the brakes has got a break, which is why you had so much left.

Right Girly moment time.
Steves gone away again, and this light is bugging me LOL. Cant wait till steve comes home to look at it. Right bare with me on this, as im no leccy. The old pads, if i were to snip the wires as they go on to pads and join them together. Then take wheel off and disconnect the plug to the new pads. Connect the old connecter up with the wires ive joined together, should that turn light out if the fault was in that area? Not sure if putting them 2 wires together is right, but from what i remember from school, putting them togethe makes a circuit. I did look at Audi Pages, but its to hard for me to understand. Just trying to fix it before steve came back, or at least norrow it down. Or another idea if i just unplug the new pads, the connector coming from engine bay has 2 connection can i just put a wire from 1 to the other? If i got this wrong, and u can find away to explain it very simple to me please do so. Hey at least im trying

Thats the one to try. Just short out the plug from the car and if the light goes out you have found your culprit! :0
