Extended Leather (well, some of it)
This weekend I replaced the glove box, transmission tunnel side panels and the panel & cubby hole below the steering wheel with the extended leather equivalents that I'd bought from A8 Parts.
After some pretty extensive cleaning of the leather with the Woolies kit that I'd bought a few months ago and some vigourous scrubbing of the carpet on the transmission tunnel panels, I set about the job. Now, for those of you who have already done this, or even just removed the transmission tunnel panels to get at the air con drains, you'll know what I went through. Someone at Audi was having a laugh when they dreamt that assortment of fixings up! Hidden allen screws/bolts, normal bolts, strange protruding attachments to link panels together and screws throught the carpet that you've almost no chance of relocating. Not to mention the tabs on the end of the transmission tunnel panels - what a b****y mess! And plenty of evidence to show that previous dismantlers had been less careful than I was. But they do look good - photos to follow. Unfortunately (or maybe not) the extended leather door panels had discoloured, so I won't be fitting them. But - one question - I only found the famous bright orange air con drain on the passenger side. Is there not one on the driver's side too? |

^^^ wot he said.
Transmission tunnels are one of the worst jobs. Providing the front seat is wound fully back, and the base is tipped fully up at the front, you stand a sporting chance as it will manouver neatly underneath the gap under the seat... I've removed and fitted a few of them in my time...

I had the seats back but also the glove box and cubby hole below the steering wheel removed, so access wasn't too bad. But getting it all lined up to refit, especially the screws through the carpet, was a nightmare!
And why didn't I see the driver's side aircon drain? The passenger side was obvious, but I couldn't find the driver's side one even though I was looking for it. Anyway, I'm not taking the panel off again until the carpets get wet! I'll have a look on the forum 'cos I'm sure there's a photo somewhere.... |

Jim, car looks great. Your panels make car look special.
Fully leather door cards don't make such a difference, and they are nightmare to clean were leather contacts with door seals, so leaving old cards is good idea. Besides, leather door cards easily develop mould on strip of leather outside rubber door seals, since that area is exposed to street conditions. With your color mould would be impossible to mask. Very very pleasing upgrade.
