Disappointed to see no mention of your apprentice in there, torch holding and pedal pushing skills are a dying art these days

I should, of course, have mentioned BrianG's help as well as the use of The Laird's garage especially in the week before he was moving house and the car was up on jacks for 14 days! Thanks to you both

We're all waiting with bated breath for pictures of the garage at the Laird's new country estate!

The old discs were badly and unevenly worn (the outsides looked good but the inside faces were less than 50% in proper contact with the pads with large ridges at the edges of corrosion. This was, possibly, the cause of shuddering. The calipers were showing signs of corrison around the s/steel pad holders and most of the seals were distorted/damaged. The corrosion forced the pads out and had been the cause of brake overheating/ stuck pads before. I hope that all this is now in the past especially as the rears calipers were refurbished 15 months ago.

Good to go! - and now stop
Looks good - mine cost less than that when done by the place next door to Unit 20, but they didn't need any refurbishment. I may get my spare set done by Pro-Caliper, given your recommendation. I just need to decide on a colour now: my "main" set are gunmetal, so I'll have to go for something different. That's unlikely to be black (too similar), so that leaves red, yellow, or blue, I think...

Well done David, they look very sexy

By the way, do the discs have anti rust coating like Zimmermann's??

I am not sure. The finish on the Ferodo discs intrigued me too. As you can see its a flat finish which I just cleaned with brake cleaner (to remove greasy finger marks) after fitting. I havent had time to bed them in yet to see what happens to the surface finish.

I would highly recommend Pro-Calipers (aka Addiction Motorsport Ltd). They did a good job, communicated with me regarding return dates (so I could get out of the Laird's garage before he moved!!) and the calipers were returned with excellent protection. As I stated before they were the ONLY refurbishers I found who actually split the block to sort out the corrosion behind the s/steel pad carriers which is the cause of stuck pads and overheating brakes.

OF COURSE

One thing I would say is that best discs I found so far are the Zimmermann's Sport Z with anti rust coating all over outside pads contact areas. 2, 3, 4 years in and they were good as gold. All they needed from time to time was a good wipe using brake cleaner and cloth. Fine Brass wire brush wasn't much harm either if you skipped a year of cleaning as the anti rust coat is very durable.

I love black calipers, but front ones look very nice in grey with Audi Ceramic logo so I have to use same style/colour on the rears which I will be painting very soon. Ordered 150ml of what seems to be the closest match for the Audi grey caliper paint so hopefully were soon I'll be able to tick brakes off my ''little'' list.

I just used Pro Calipers for a front caliper refurb. Can't recommend them enough. Two calipers refurbed in 24hrs for £350 all in including delivery back to my garage. Simple and effective.
