Default Ceramic Brakes disc removal

Are there any differences between removing ceramic rear discs as opposed to steel ones? My backing plate has corroded at the fixing points and come adrift. I will order a replacement (unless anyone has a spare!) but want to make sure before I pull it apart. Thanks

They are actually quite brittle, and need extra, extra care when removing and refitting the wheel so it doesn't drop down onto the disc and chip it.....

Audi do metal wheel guide pegs for the Q7, far better and longer than the plastic A8 ones. I strongly recommend using a couple of them if you want to have a bit of extra protection

Thanks IT, I'll look into those. I have removed the wheels before and was very careful! Is removing the discs the same as any other audi?

Iíve got the pin part number at home, as bought one for the S5 when the plastic one snapped - about a fiver each iirc. Agree with Ian that 2 makes sense - theyíre long enough that youíre nowhere near the brake disc when lining up and avoid it spinning and dropping onto the disc

Donít believe thereís any difference in disc removal - might be worth weighing the disc while itís off as thatís the indicator of level of wear?

Method should be identical - The C6 RS6 ceramic and steel rear discs are the same dimensions, so if the desire (or budget) strikes, you can happily swap between the two and its been done a number of times to my knowledge.

Ceramic discs have higher temperature tolerant calipers though, so you can fit steel discs to ceramic calipers, but not vice versa strictly speaking....

I bought a set of two steel pins similar to the below on ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231466008055?

For anyone 'downgrading' to steels due to expensive ceramics you can use 2-piece 380mm discs from the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (this car uses the same Brembo 19z calipers as an option) and swap over the bells for correct hub fitment. Or any 380mm two piece (Nissan R35 GTR etc... although 35/34mm) with a custom bell. Then use pads that meet these part numbers below:

Pads:
AUDI: 7L5698151
PORSCHE: 95535193950
PORSCHE: 95535193951
PORSCHE: 95535193952

Wear sensor cable:
AUDI: 4E0615437A
PORSCHE: 95561236551

Porsche 380x38 2-piece discs:
PORSCHE: 95535140161 Left
PORSCHE: 95535140261 Right

As for the S8 rears to steel, you can get a set of W12 rear caliper carriers and go OEM route for discs / pads.

With the above you use the existing calipers. Nice and easy. Still expensive but no where near new ceramic price.

Thanks guys for the advice. The backing plate/shield is circa £150 where as the one for standard brakes is £50. Thieves!

Not sure whether I will revert back to steels when the time comes, will depend on how many pennies are in the bank!

Yep TPS confirmed £122.50 +VAT so £147!

Going to see if mine can be repaired before splashing out
