Why so early. I’m only 45 minutes away, but wasn’t thinking of setting off until around 8am

Well I'm certainly the wimp, arriving late and leaving early, but it was interesting nonetheless and great to see familiar faces again (even some of the crazy Noggy boys! ).

Most intriguing for me was the 1983 4.2 V8 (aka D1) in a lovely deep red colour. What was fascinating was the interior, which at first glance was not so very different from my near-end-of-line 2002/3 D2 S8.

The door switch panels were eerily familiar as were the seats, equipment and much of the trim. It was so clearly the base for much of the D2, though obviously the body structure is radically different.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks to all of you who came along - every single person turned up so we had 11 No. A8's and S8's on the AOC Club Stand which was nice to see.

Roberto immediateley set up shop peddling Audi Valeting Bags and sold quite a few! TinTin and the Laird parked next to each other in a show of D2 FE Solidarity, so in the end we had a really nice mixture of cars -

1 x D2 A8 PF 2.8 V6
1 x D2 A8 FL 2.8 V6
2 X D2 S8 FL 4.2 V8
2 x D2 S8 FE 4.2 V8
1 x D3 A8 3.0 Tdi V6
3 x D3 S8 5.2 V10
1 x D4 A8 LWB FL 4.0T V8

There were a couple of others on other stands at the show as well as the lovely Audi V8 (D1) Jim and Andrew referred to plus a lovely mixture of everything from 4 white A3's to a Purple A3 on air, to a Revo S5 and a couple of nice RS4's etc etc

It was a shame that the rain hammered it down at about 2pm which set a few people off leaving the field but generally the weather was pretty good the rest of the day

It was great to meet everyone if only briefly as I spent quite a time wandering round looking at all the other great cars.

One thing which I found really interesting, having in the past been to the annual BMW show a few times (incidentally also held last sunday) is that as an overall appx % of cars at the respective shows, there seemed to be more older/classic/modern classic at the BMW shows versus AITP where there seemed to be more newer models.

I guess that must just be an indication that BMW sold more/became more popular here in the uk a few years earlier than audi did...??

I like both marques so no leanings either way but an observation....

- toyota hiace camper, just repainted in gulf racing colours and now getting used

- honda c90 custom cub, ' bought by accident'....there seems to be a them here..!

(Not so) Recently departed:

- very sadly sold to fund the e9....BMW e28 m535 white 1986, owned 12 years, I loved that car.
- red mk1 vw golf gti, fully sorted: resprayed, flash red, mk2 1800 16v conversion, uprated brakes, shocks, leather interior,
- 1986 Saab 900 turbo convertible sold to get Audi on 'one out, one in' rule imposed by missus...not really adhering to the rule at the moment as can be seen..!
