What I want from a daily driver is:

Comfort and space
Less than 3 years old - I do a lot of miles across the country and need reliability
Less than about 70k miles
Modern interior with up to date infotainment and navigation
Automatic, cruise and good speakers
Prefer to have LED lights, heated & powered seats, sunroof
Probably at least 6 cylinders
Reasonable fuel economy, anything above 30mpg okay

I'm currently considering:
Audi A4/5/6/7/8/Q5
BMW 3/4/5/6/7
Jaguar XE/XF/XJ
Infiniti SUVs
Mercedes E/S
Performance VWs
Some Volvo (not V40 though, sorry HP)
Alfa Stelvio/Giulia

Budget can go higher for the perfect car.

I've also been looking at Maserati Levante, but that would go well over budget, plus servicing and depreciation could be ruinous

This is the car I had (actually went back yesterday!) but mine was actually in black! No sunroof on this special edition but lovely 20'' wheels and about £9k of extras, including winter and parking pack and a superb Meridian surround sound system which was about a £2.5k option.

Never really looked or felt like an old mans car to me! Plus as far as I can see it ticks your boxes? Local MPG was around 35, run was 55 easily. I liked mine and it was a lovely looking thing.

The out-dated navigation?

I test drove a first gen a few years back, I literally felt out of the seat cornering hard.

They just don't do it for me, sorry.

Not been ruled out altogether, but would have to be a 3.0

C7 S6 or D4 S8 tick a good chunk of those requirements, if not all.

The 40 TFSi engine seems good. Cylinder shutdown etc makes it more frugal than you'd think.

Prices for D4's have not held well at all, and even the S8's have slid a lot just recently, with the D5 release not helping. Plenty of poverty spec ones around that meet most of your requirements. To find a sunroof isn't a big stretch.

C7's are coming to the end of their production run with the C8 upon us. I've got one as a courtesy car at the moment. Its a dire 2.0 tdi engine, so its bloody slow, but the chassis handles and rides very well. I suspect the V8 petrol would be a joy to drive. The 3.0 Bi-Tdi has always met with good reviews too.

Both models can have B&O, although Bose easier to aim for. 25K would buy a lot in both models. I saw a very high spec low mileage S6 saloon change hands for ~21K recently. That was a heck of a lot of car for the money.

and no, I've not got either for sale, but as no-one on here has what you want, I guess this has turned into a bit of a brainstorming session !

Yup, both on the list - was looking again at 3.0TDI Avants this morning, it's the immminent replacement that holds me back a little, new model A4 Avant is definitely in the running though

I like the 4's in general, but short of an S the kit list always leaves me wanting, or searching for that unicorn build where someone didn't lease it and actually put some kit on......

If you're a high miler, surely radar cruise is on your nice to have list ?

Yes, radar cruise would be nice to have, as would all the other bits like lane assist, blindspot alert, but finding a car with all the bits on is an impossible job

With the new A4, I agree, would have to be S Line, or one of the very few Black Editions now out there

Don't apologise; I only threw in the V40 as one post suggested a Golf-sized car would fit and I have direct current experience.
We never considered Volvo at all until one of our kids suggested it; as an S8 driver I find them surprisingly competent and definitely "Interesting".
Plus with a lot of (dare I say it) "maturer" cash buyers (often downsizing from luxury company-funded cars) finding one with lots of toys is probably easier.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Radar cruise is the one to have. The others I've found very little benefit from in contrast.

Just had a quick nose around and for Levante money you could get a Tesla Model S...
