I did toy with buying new mirror bodies as well, to avoid the need to remove the caps, and that's the main reason I never fitted my plastic caps as sensibly priced new mechanisms never came up!

So you wanted to replace your aluminium caps with plastic?

I wanted the option to run plastic over winter and to reduce theft risk (which I managed to achieve by always garaging the car instead!)
