Default Roof paint peeling problem

On the roof of a D3, there are strips running down each side where roof rails would normally be - I have no idea whether they are drainage covers or a feature.

The drivers side one is bubbling and peeling. Is this a removable part? There looks like there are thin strips of gasket either side of this strip leading me to believe it can be changed.

Here's hoping.....

That's perfect, thanks. I can get it re-sprayed with minimal fuss as it looks pretty terrible at the moment.

Wet them with warm water before removing is what I did on other VAG cars. I assume its the same with a sort of serrated rubber edging. The Passat ones were aluminium so you had to be really careful not to bend them as they would never sit right or stay in the full length if you did. I don't know if the D3 are aluminium or plastic.

They are aluminium, it bends quite easily but can also be bent back into shape quite easily.
