Default DIS says key's battery is low...

Intermittently the boot would not unlock when the key was in my pocket, and DIS would say no key was present (having let me enter the car with key in my pocket) and rarely DIS would report the key's battery was low.

I replaced the battery in the key I had been using, and the low key battery warning continued, again rarely. So I started using the other key, and today DIS told me its battery was low too... So I've bought some expensive Duracell 2032s today and replaced the battery in the key I have with me.

Is it just a coincidence, and both batteries were low, and maybe the battery I had (in one of those blister packs you get, of cheap batteries) wasn't the best, or is something else going on?

John.

Dunno, but the same happened to me. Bought some cheap ones off eBay with a Lebanese flag tree logo and had the same problem as you.
I think many online branded batteries are fake, so bought two SONY ones from SONY online store which were £1 each delivered (so still cheap) and they have been fine for over a year.

Thanks for that. Fingers crossed I won't have anymore warnings about low batteries and that will be that.

Dunno if it will help, but I was having quite a few problems with remote batteries only lasting a few weeks. I found that due to me using the car mainly for small journeys, the problem was the charge of the car battery. I bought a charger, and following the charging, the problem disappeared and the keyless entry started working faultlessly.

Thanks for that^

I know my car battery wears down pretty quickly (when using VCDS without the engine running), so it may be well past its best.

Food for thought.
