I find these numbers quite astonishing:

S8 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds, governed 155mph top speed, 28.0mpg, 235g/km

TWENTY EIGHT mpg from a car that does 0 to 60 in only 4.2 seconds.

And thats before the tech boys take Audis no-doubt overly conservative power map and retune it, to give a few more horses.....

Up to this point, I was impressed with the B8 S4 doing 0-60 in 5 seconds, with 30 MPG.

And given the default kit, price inflation from previous generations.. Not too expensive (until you add options)

cylinder on demand and shut down of alternaiting banks of 4 are the reason behind the combined 28mpg i know of some reviews where they claim a 32mpg on a run at 70mph it will run with only 4 cylinders 1 turbo and a 2L out put and will stay like that until sufficient load is put on the engine to kick in the other 4 exelent idea and should be implimented on the W12

Pfft, my car does 30 MPG if you stick it at 70 MPH, yesterday I took it to London and back and wasn't hanging around and it did 25.5 MPG, and that's with a 3.8 sec 0-60 time.
In all seriousness though, the D4 S8 could be the car that tempts me back to the '8' world, but I'd be more interested in an RS7.

The S7 would be more appealing to me, on looks and price (£62k) but has considerably less power in standard form

It's not all about power though, the D4 A8 I sat in was a very fine place to be indeed, and I love the tech and gadgets

i have driven the D4 not the S8 but an A8 non the less, and i must say i really thought the D3 is refined untill i went out in the D4, i dont know how they have done it but its silent and i mean there is just no road noise no tyre noise no engine note nothing, and it was like a magic carpet ride, not sure about the chunky tyres that were on it though but maybe thats what helped towards the ride comforts

Active noise cancellation. Microphones monitor incoming noise and speakers put out sound that cancels out noise. Kind of like noise reduction headphones just on a bigger scale.
