Ah well.. At least you've still got a decent motor to play with in the meantime.

What's the problem with the paint on the bonnet?

I'm not sure, it's just looks a bit 'washy'

Car had some minor frontal accident repair when stolen, I think they just made a bit of a bodge of the bonnet.

Seemed okay when I bought her, but the first time I applied any polish (only mild abrasive), the result on the bonnet was very poor, looked far worse than before I polished, almost as if it had faded in the sun and a lot of swirl marks became apparent (yes I checked my polishing cloth for grit etc)

Had a price of £250 to repaint the bonnet, think I could find cheaper but I have heard the guy is very good and comes highly recommended

Amar might know him, his name is Greg, well known I think in VW circles, works out of Ladbroke near Southam.

Yeah, he's supposed to be the best. He quoted me £400 to repaint my front bumper though but your bonnet quote sounds reasonable.

For £250 I would have it painted, that's a great price

I agree, but isn't £400 for my bumper and £300 for my sideskirt expensive? Wonder why he quoted me so high?

Could be the other way round! Found a very reputable guy that said he will do it for £300 (sideskirt and front bumper) he does the widebody B5 RS4 saloon conversions for the B5 S4 lot, in fact he is on here as he has an S8 too, has the username 'quattronutter' and is based in Northampton.

I've known Greg for a long time with some mutual friends, I think I got mates' rates, still think I could find somewhere to do it for less than £200 though.

Also, a bonnet is pretty easy to remove for prep and paint, so not much in the way of 'fiddly work' removing bumpers and skirts

Worth the extra £50 for the quality of work IMO.
