Default Streetwise Automotive- Bristol

Afternoon all,

I've been off the forum for a while, very busy at work and home! To my shame, I did try to offload the A8 quickly earlier in the year before I had to bite the bullet with MoT/service, however was surprised at how upset I was at the prospect of selling her- And indeed how upset my non-enthusiast girlfriend was!

So, I decided to give the old girl a major overhaul. Luckily the MoT was kind, only requiring a CV boot (did the other one too as it was on the way out), handbrake adjustment and a rear foglight.

On the back of recommendations from other fora, I took the car into Mitch Bull at Streetwise in Bristol. He seems very knowledgable about Audis in general, and certainly knew his way around the A8. Carried out a number of tests, put my mind at rest about phantom suspension noises too!

Result- Full service carried out, all filters replaced, new spark plugs, brake fluid changed, ATF fluid changed, sump dropped, ATF filter changed.

£770 was the final bill including MoT work. A little painful but a heck of a lot of work done. All OEM parts- ATF fluid (Audi) alone was nearly £100!

Didn't get to fully "Test" the car as OH had to follow me back from the garage but seems to be going well. Fingers crossed, but the squeal on startup appears to have gone too.

He commented that the ATF fluid was quite clear, but the filter was completely bunged up, not able to even clean it out- Glad I did it.

A thumbs up although I reserve judgement if it blows up in a month

Here's to another year of trouble-free motoring

I'm glad to report that the car is no longer making the squeal on start-up. It appears that some people on Audipages believe this is due to the transmission oil pump cavitating through lack of fluid, so glad I did do the ATF filter as well!
