Things are on the up. I've done best part of a thousand, surprisingly pleasant miles in her, also squeezed in some basics:

Oil flush / oil filter / spark plugs / fuel filter / pollen filter / air filter change
Balanced the wheels
A/C regas
New wipers

Also swapped all 8 coil packs which made a huge difference to the engine wobble. Checked the timing also and its bang on, which is good.

Intermittent PDC annoyance has gone away since I removed a mm of paint that was overlapping the front far right sensor. Nice easy win

I've ordered (and actually received) the replacement bracket from Audi that holds the rear armrest on. I really expected that to be unavailable but was lucky

Also got all the door card clips to sort the doors, but first the door glass will all be changed for twin pane heat and reflective to match the heated windscreen that will be replaced and connected shortly....

Since regassing the A/C though it has highlighted the climate is in a bit of a muddle. There's definitely at least one broken flap motor which is sending hot air where it shouldn't. Should be easy to sort once the interior is out..

Immediate job is to swap the engine ECU - The current ECU has almost certainly been fiddled with. It shows no errors. At all. Not even low oil, and many measuring blocks are absent. The remaining bit of wobble on the engine I suspect is a lambda off on one bank, but the ECU tells me nothing....

The power output is already up massively from a full service and the coil packs and its a pretty pleasant and pokey drive now. If I can get a smooth idle I'll be well chuffed.

Then it'll be onto the interior sort out, which shouldn't take long really, just a strip clean and refit with couple of minor fixes....

Great idea
Wanted to do that on my car since it was retrofitted with heated windscreen.

Ian, do you know if heat reflective *rear* windscreen was available as well?

Interesting question. I don't know and can't look it up right now. I guess there must have been heat and UV reflective rear screens as its a big area to let heat in, but also cars like mine with factory TV had single pane rear screen as standard to let the aerials work so I'll not be changing it either way.

If you have TV and heated windscreen I wonder what happens to the rear screen...

Either way, if I was going to change the rear screen, I'd change it for a PF one as it is clear with no heating element lines. Its subtle, but looks much nicer imo

IIRC, Gordon brought this car to John's place when we had the detailing meeting and we had it up on the hydraulic ramp.

I recall that the exhaust had some 'interesting' modifications that looked a bit iffy, with a dead end or two built in.

Might be worth a look underneath to see if this is still the case.
Its been up on the ramp and looks ok actually. It wasn't attached at one of the rubber mounts (easy fixed) but otherwise looked alright for its age and mileage. Sounds good too. Like I said, coil packs + plugs really helped and now I think just a Lambda might be faulty, but that happens over time and is an easy fix....

Shame it's been neglected. Great to see it getting the TLC it deserves. From memory, I fitted the S8 mirrors, grills, final edition wheels (I think), and detailed it. MRC changed a coil pack too, so one of them should have been newer than the rest.

Indeed they did. 12th November 2010 at a cost of £115.43.... They also did a compression test by the looks of it.

Given that it was now 5 years ago, a fresh one won't hurt

You can tell it was a while ago, VAT was 'only' 17.5%

Can't believe it's been that long, I thought it'd have been about three years back. Makes sense though, I've had the C6 three years, and had the C5 inbetween.

Does sound pricey - and even I can swap out a coil pack, it's probably high because I asked for a compression test and diagnosis, too. This is after Ben Williamson told me the engine was knackered, and to keep an eye out for a new one. Good job I got a second opinion.
