Default How to clear the burnt bulb warning in the dash due to using aftermarket xenon.

Hello,

Some time ago I've replaced the OEM xenon headlights by an aftermarket system (original Bosch cost a small fortune and it's not easy to find).
Since then I got a "burnt bulb" signal on the dash.
I know that it's possible to eliminate this signal by linking a resisitor on the wiring.
Any ideas?
Secondly, I'm still not happy with this system, it's very weak.
Any suggestion about a good, affordable aftermaket headlight system?

Thank you very much,

Doug

PS.: my car is an A8 Quattro 4.2 1995

Hi Doug,

Most resister systems for HID are designed to emulate the resistance of a Halogen Globe and the kits are readily available
I don't understand how the bulb warning operates with the factory HID system and how to simulate it with another non-OEM HID system.

However, what was wrong with your existing HID setup?
Did it fail to light or flicker once it did?

There's only 3 parts to the system and they're generally pretty robust.
The parts shouldn't be that hard to get. I would have thought the forum sponsors could have helped you out with various components.
The igniters are also the same as a number of cars from that era such as Range Rovers. I found mine on DH Gate or somewhere when the igniter blew. A couple of years back.

1995 D2s did not have HID's. So has to be aftermarket.
My 1998 S8 was one of the very first and that was dipped only.

Well he said he replaced factory xenon's...

If he only had Halogens, then the solution is something like this.

I had aftermarket HID's and now have LED's on my 1997 S8 with stock halogen lights and never had any false bulb warnings.
