Default Cupholder & Ashtray lid Gears

Hello all,

I have been doing some research into this common issue. Basically the lids for the cupholder and ashtray use a small plastic gear attached to a damper to make the lids open smoothly. These break.

I have tried every gear in the car to see if they are the same, the little coat hooks, the 12v socket in the boot, and several ones from another car I own with soft open lids, and the Audi lids are different.

Has anyone tried this mob though?

I wouldn't mind giving them a go. Audi have no part number for the little gear.

Have read something here...

You need to use google translate unless you understand german, but I need to do this with my ashtray.

I have the same problem so have just ordered the replacement gear. For £13.17, it's worth it. I'll let you know when it arrives and how easy it is to fit it.

Thanks,

I know how easy it is to fit, I have pulled it apart and made my own plastic gears for it a couple of times. They don't seem to last. The job is simple just as long as the gear is good.

The sale site doesn't seem to be very active, but if yours goes well I will buy 4 gears (two cars worth)

Any update to this before I order them Dave?

I also have found a company that makes the gear wheels in plastic. But I haven't got a direct measurement as both my gears are broken.

If so, 250 of these plastic gears is 80 pounds.

Any update on this? Bought my very own W12 on Wednesday and the cup holder, and two in the rear extended centre console are broken.

What's the best way to take them out to get a good look at them?

For an end to this, I’ve just had a whole bunch of these gears that fit the cup holder and ashtray 3D printed.

They work very well. I am happy to assist in getting some to owners who have had the soft open function of the cup holder and ashtray fail.

Mike.

Wow this form has everything! My ashtray door was not opening or closing properly. I figured out the gear was broken. I removed it and it still works but now it works like in a Chevy! 😂

Do you still have some of these parts mcs?
