In fact being sited in areas like Silicon Valley, where there's a high concentration of technical skills and knowledge, can be an advantage, despite the much higher cost of living.
Couldn't agree more Mark - I spend most of my working life advising clients on how they could run their businesses more effectively. Many of them offshored and/or outsourced work to cheaper locations overseas over the last two decades, and I've always advised them that that's just a short-term (and often wrong!) tactic on the road to optimising their operations, and many of them are now either using robotics and/or eliminating the unnecessary complexity instead - and in many cases bringing operations back to their UK locations

Tesla excels not only in technical expertise - leading to smarter ways of making things - but also in avoiding complexity, and both of these factors will keep them ahead of other manufacturers for years, if not decades.

Cool. Is yours the S75D Stephen? So you get a 1 second quicker 0-60 now?

I just hope their updates are more reliable than Microsoft's. Wouldn't want a 'Blue Screen Of Death' while hurtling down the motorway!

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

OTR - Over The Road? Now that could possibly lead to the Blue Screen of Death .

Over The Air (OTA), whilst stationary, is much, much safer . And whilst you're sleeping, normally - but not at the wheel

Interesting article. I still think even $6900 servicing costs in 2 years is excessive for an electric car, but it seems to compare very favourably to IC cars driven to similar mileages. If one goes by scheduled maintenance.

It is: I've just paid my first maintenance cost of any kind after two years, and that was the the 2nd year service for a total of £700. Even that was optional, not required for warranty purposes, and a number of owners don't bother...
