Hallo all
I am in the market for a D2 s8. I am very specific about what I am wanting so will list my requirements in order to keep the post brief.
1st generation preferred, 1998 perfect.
Will consider newer, 40 valve but prefer the older ones.
Must be metallic black In colour.
Interior either black or a light colour. Cream etc no strange blues or red interiors.
Less than 70,ooo Mls
Proof of service history.
All standard, no modifications.
Don't mind about having to do some mechanical repairs but please, no basket cases and no body work issues.
Seller must be willing to allow an rac inspection.
I am not a trader, this car is for my own personal use as a second car / hobby.
Let me know if any of you have a good one you are looking at moving on.
Cheers.

Don't bother viewing the one on auto trader at a dealer in london. Meets your requirements but gather it's rough

Yeah, paid rac £400 to check that one out, sas motors. It's advertised as excellent condition and in fact it is a spares or repair. Not sure if I feel like I lost £400 or saved thousands.

I must admit I read you spent £400 on an RAC inspection and think that's just madness on a £5k car.

Only thing with an D2 is gearbox or cambelt, if you want it inspected just pay for an independent MOT on it.

Cared for cars are very rare.
I'd suggest to drop colour and year requirements to expand scope. Will take time and patience.
When I searched my car in 2010 I only looked at most expensive examples. That helped. Finally bought the most expensive 2002 car on the market at that time. That helped.
Good luck. Keep us informed about the progress.

Car is £6000 and because it's 200 mls from me I needed to make sure it wasn't a ringer or damaged repaird etc. Gearbox is a £3000 repair and is leaking transmission fluid on that car. Timing belt has not been done. So £4000 on top of purchase price before you start. Would you pay£6000 for such a car?

Ah I apologise its back up near £6k again, not sure why he has put the price up again, interesting.

I am always in the mind as there are so few decent D2 S8s around you need to travel. Mine was an 800 mile round trip and worth every mile driving to find the right car.

Seeking a sub 70K mileage car is going to leave little room for being picky about the colour, spec or even condition.

The D2's have become very rare over the last few years.

If you find what you're looking for, you'll need deep pockets to secure it...

Hope you find one

Good luck I hope you find the right one.
My only suggestion is, if its possible (depending on location of the future car) get a specialist mechanic to check it rather than RAC. Firstly, much cheaper, secondly, if you pick a specialist that knows these cars they can pick up issues the RAC will likely miss.
I had luck with my first S8 it was in central London, an ex-audi master tech came out from Dartford to inspect it for £120.

Hi, thanks for your help.
If any of you guys are willing or know anyone who is willing to check the car over for me please drop me there details and I will contact them when I find a car. Clearly I am more than happy to pay for there services. I did initially try and find an Audi expert but could not find anyone at the time. £400 is a lot of money and if I need to do that 2 or 3 times before finding the right car, well, that sure is getting expensive.
