Dear lord - what possessed you?!

At least it looks rust free from this angle, and that's very rare on any of these. Presume it's been parked up for years unused?

See that fuel filler cap. Its nicely placed so that any fuel slapping around in the tank, in say a tight right hand bend, can empty itsself directly onto the rear offside wheel. The resulting loss of friction between that tyre and the road (just when you need it) will deliver unintended results. Many of which have been fatal.
Ahhh. BLMC engineering. Let's do it up and put our precious offspring in it

You bought it for your son, Fred John Nigel Underwood, for his 27th birthday...

I learnt to drive in a metro, and I'm 6'4". My stepfather's misplaced loyalty to BL meant when I let the clutch out my left knee put the indicator on. Oh happy days.

My first car was a Lada (a white one funnily enough). Not a Riva though but the earlier Lada VAZ-2101 (Russian Fiat 124). Had it for 6 months before it ended its days in a fight with a traffic light. The traffic light lost but the car was a write-off (particularly since I'd only paid £150 for it).

After killing the Lada, I had my first experience with British Leyland. I was on the market for something cheap and sh1te. Very nearly bought an old Citroen CX but for some reason I forked out £500 for an old Morris Ital 1.7HL instead. Again in white. Talk about out of the frying pan ...

By comparison, the Lada was definitely the better built vehicle of the two.

Those 2 were the first and last white cars I've ever owned.

My 3rd (or fourth car) was a Metro 1.3HLE.
I loved it and got and indicated 110 mph on the M66 once...........that was fun.

Got Turbo wheels/tyres on it and also a remote for locking/unlocking the doors (a friend worked for a Merc dealership and fitted it for me on the cheap)
