I shouldn't have got you all excited right away, I am going to meet Ben tomorrow to discuss the possible project in more detail. However, I'm not as good at being sneeky as Conan and R8_Dream!
Its going to be a lot of £££ but for something fairly bespoke. Clive said to me that a standard S8 handles like an RS 6 on coilovers, so imagine what an RS 6 powered S8 on coilovers could be like? The S8 is also lighter because of its ali design then an RS and imo has the better interior as well as being a lot rarer. An RS with 517BHP does 0-60 in 3.6 secs, see below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_AtRioAkNc If I went ahead with this, rest assured it would have no less then 580BHP. (remember the S8 is a little lighter)

Well, if this is the cause, then the hoses should be inspected and renewed if suspected to be on their way out.
I do note that on later D2s, the pipes are different - I'm going to check mine out to see if they are indeed the later type.
