Default Oil and filter choices

Hi,

I'm going to be changing the oil and filter in my D4 4.2 TDI soon.

I assume 507 is the required grade but was wondering what owners on here who service their own cars choose as brands. Mannol seems to be a reputable brand at reasonable cost, would this be a good choice? Also MAN, Hengst or Mahle for oil filters?

Any thoughts please? Steve.

I use Mannol in everything. Its competitively priced and certainly behaves well in d2 engines and gearboxes.

Hengst are an OE supplier, as I believe are MAN. Mahle I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw them these days as most of their aftermarket stuff is Chinesium with a different sticker.

Mannol seems OK, or OEM Quantum oil, both reasonably priced, meet specs and do the job. But I have switched to Fuchs Titan Race Pro S

Can anyone tell me if the plug from the dipstick tube can be re-used once removed. I'm going to use a Pela oil extractor via the tube. Do I need a new plug/new seals if available? Cheers Steve

I'm pretty sure it is just a plug, with an o-ring. Pull it out, put it back - like a dip stick without the dip-stick!
