Default Seat design?

Are there two different seat designs?....I am still browsing the ads and the drivers seat appears to have more than one design with one design showing the drivers seat area more extended than the other?

Depends if you're talking D2 or D3.

D2 has two types, comfort and sports.

Comfort is a very 'flat' seat style with ribs running front to back o t he base and no extending squab.
Sports - Looks like it sounds, nice recaros, with wide panels side to side and raised bolsters with a manually extandable squab for thigh support

D3 has 3 types (or maybe more now)

Standard(?) - Much like comfort in D2
Comfort - Looks a bit like Sports, but not as much bolster going on
Sports - More bolster than the Comfort, much like the D2 sports
The D3 ones have electric everything, and split adjustment on the backrest too.

Standard, Comfort and Sport on both D2 and D3:

D2 Standard: Can be manual, but usually electric. Not always heated.

D2 Comfort (Standard on LWB) (shamelessly ripped off a current advert)

D2 Sport: Standard on Sport and S8 models: Always heated, always electric. Has pull out thigh support at the front. They are insanely comfortably, very supportive and very simple to retrofit.

D3 'Standard' : (not as much adjustment as the comfort or sports seats)

D3 Comfort: Only seats that can have vent / massage option.

D3 Sport: Standard on S8 and Sport models. Cannot be ventilated or massaging.

First one has the standard seats, which is usually an indication of a low spec car overall.

The second one is a sport model, which has sports seats as standard (as this does), or a sport model can optionally have comfort seats if the buyer wanted ventilated / massage seats etc....

Couldn't agree more; I get into my S8 and it just feels like home. Best car seats I've ever sat in EVER

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks for that!...and you are right about the first car being low spec! May make an offer on the second as it has Xenons.

I've always wondered which ones my D3 has.

None of the one's in Iain's pics fits the bill as mine have little fold in wings on the head restraints so you can have a kip with your head lolling off

Very comfortable anyway.....

Ooh... That's now 2 cars with the funky headrests! My new TDi has them

They're comfort seats (on mine anyway), but with a special order headrest.

How do you know if a seat is ventilated? Is the leather perforated like on older S classes I have seen?

I have D3 comfort plus and when I do VCDS scan, I get errors about seat vent- no communication. I don't think it has this though as I can't see where the air could come out.
