Default I miss my A8.... Been mapping one today.

Had the pleasure of 2 A8's in this week to remap and I am missing my old one so bad

Had a 3.0 TDi 57 plate one in last Monday, what a gorgeous car. It was the sport model with everything on. A remap later and it was stupidly quick. On par with my 4.2 V8 anyday.

Then on Friday I had a 56 plate 4.2 TDi in. These don't have shift as standard, but once mapped it's unreal for a diesel!

One day..... Is it time for a new S8 yet?!?!

Hope you are all well, i'm staving off getting a 07 plate BMW M5 with the V10 in at present.....

Default Sweet

Amazing what you can do with a TDi these days

If you have a hankering for a V10, here's a shortlist :-

C6 S6
D3 S8
R8 (V10)
C6 RS6!

Not sure about the C6 S6, why has Audi's NA 5.2 V10 only got 435BHP when BMW's NA 5.0 V10 has 507 BHP! I would get the E60 M5 over the C6 S6 anyday! The C6 RS 6 I would however take over an M5, especially after a remap! The C6 S6 though, I just feel as though its been made I dunno kind of half heartadly..
Clive, I think you can pick up E60 M5s for around £24k whereas D3 S8s are around £30k plus still?

I'm sure you're right, Amar, but I know which I'd rather have

and I know what you mean about the C6 S6...

I'd take the D3 S8 over the M5 aswell if they were the same price, but even the D3 should have at least 500BHP from that monster 5.2 V10!
If only Audi ever made a D3 RS8..

Love the 5.2 FSi V10 and very tempted, but the M5 is brutal, and dare I say it quite raw!

The 5.2 FSi V10 will remap to 475bhp~ but on the same token the M5 goes from 507bhp to around 535bhp~

The diesels are just amazing with the economy AND power. I just love long revving petrol engines....

Default M5 v S8

I've only had one ride in an M5 (both on German twisties and the autobahn).

It was very fast but a horrible ride, the gearbox snapped at every gear change, raw and brutal. I know the M5 has 101 different ride and drive settings but that was certainly not the one for me!

I'd choose the S8 every time...

I've often had that thought, but I think there's a number of reasons why they'll probably never do that.

First up, although the RS range now come in all shapes & sizes, the RS tradition started life as a stealth high performance 'estate car' (ie RS2 and B5 RS4) and this is usually the first model to emerge. Of course, the 8 has only ever been available as a saloon.

Secondly, what engine would they put in? Simply bolt a couple of turbos on is the obvious answer (a la RS6 C6), but I understand there could be heat issues with doing that in an aluminium space frame.

Lastly is the styling. The RS models typically have lowered and stiffer suspension, bigger wheels and brakes, wider arches, etc. I think that trying to style the 8 along those lines could be a bit of a disaster.

Food for thought though - I'd love to be proved wrong...
