Default Classic insurance?

Hi all

Has anyone successfully arranged modern classic insurance on their '8 to date?

The tiny thought process that's been running through my head about the likely cost of my insurance renewal, plus the fact I'm having to garage my S8 every night for my own sanity, I figure it's worth a shot!

I had my old '92 BX 16V on a classic policy and that was about 10 years ago, so the S8 is now the same age as that was then.

Waiting for a call back from the classic broker who covers the '88 BX 16V I have a half share in with my dad to see if they'll cover it - fingers crossed, but always useful to know who's open to covering them from personal experience

Adrian

Update on this - had a call back from the brokers and if the car was over 10 years old then they would cover it. Unfortunately mine's a late November 2002 so it'll be renewal time next year, rather than this, before I can consider it.

Bit of a bind for this year's renewal, but thought the info might be useful to those who's '8s are a little older

Adrian - What would be the benefits of a modem classic insurance policy?

Hiya

Agreed value, for starters. Plus you tend to be dealing with people who understand your attachment to your car and aren't just looking for the cheapest repairer if the worst happens.

You usually have to agree to garage the car overnight at your home address and it really only suits if you are happy to limit mileage. You don't need a no-claims bonus either

The price is generally much cheaper as they work on the basis the car is generally treated better than your spouse

Try Footman James (classic specialist) - they cover my Fiat Coupe ('97), though apparerently my s8 (03) is too new to qualify. Fully comp, garaged, cover is <£200pa, tho' that's on limited mileage of <3k pa....
