RNS-E SD cards
I'm not sure if D3 '8s have SD card slots that do or don't recognise SDHC so thought I'd post here, as anyone with an RNS-E or SD adaptor in a D2 will have retro-fitted it in any case!
I've had loads of issues buying SD cards in 4GB capacity off ebay that turn out to be SDHC (they are basically generic SDHC cards with a knock-off SD branding) and therefore don't work in an RNS-E or anything else that isn't post-SDHC introduction. I ordered 4 from this place a few days ago and they turned up yesterday - I've successfully tested one, having formatted to FAT32 and dumped some MP3s on it - so can confirm they are correct SD cards to the old standard. http://www.inkubus.co.uk/product.php/5385/0 They are currently out of stock, but will be getting more in and I'll definitely be getting some more. At this price they're considerably cheaper than Amazon etc. Also note that if you do their online checkout and want more than a couple the postage charge rockets to a fiver - if you call and order over the phone they'll amend it to £2.50. I thought that generally there was a technical limit of 2GB for "proper" SD cards.
There are some 4GB cards on sale, but depending on how "standard" your equipment is they may well not work.

4GB is the limit that fully meets the standard - there are some 8GB cards which are really 2x4GB cards but they're not common or compatible with most.
My RNS-E doesn't recognise the card size correctly at all, but does recognise all the content. Think when the RNS-E was developed the limit was about 512MB!

On the D3 you'd have the AMI installed - Use it with the USB interface and you can hook up any amount of USB based storage, SDHC, HDD etc.
The no-sdhc support of the RNS-E is fast becoming an annoying limitation...

I haven't bothered looking in depth, but gather the later style RNS-E with chrome volume control accepts SDHC as well as having a higher resolution screen. Think it's mainly fitted to A3 derived models in a form that would be relatively straightforward to retrofit to an '8 IF you have a donor faceplate from an older RNS-E to fit as the newer ones are too small.
Cost is pretty prohibitive though......about £800 for the newer unit alone.

my A7 has a 16 gig and an 8 gig SDHC card in it and seems to play almost any format ive tried so far. . .
