Replacing rear screen glass. Possible or not?
I'l' try and explain this the best I can. The rear window of my car seems to be the pre-facelift glass with the thick evenly spaced defrosting lines running across the width of the glass, like this one and almost every other car on the road:
Is it possible to remove this glass and replace it with the glass I've seen on most other D3s which has the 'invisible' heating elements with the lines packed close together? This rear glass also has a slight pink tint if I'm not mistaken. So is it pretty much just a case of switching the glass, connecting the element plug again and away I go?

Couldn't say connection ways but the glass can be cut out with cheese wire type tool but it needs all the trim out on the inside around the window for access .

The type of screen may depend on options fitted, since it also includes the aerials. If you have a TV tuner, it will have a different screen. What you are seeing maybe this rather than different generations of screen.

Ah yes, didn't think about the TV reception. I think I'm right in saying that the satnav GPS signal is received by the rear screen too?
I can remove all the trim and take the glass out no problem, just wasn't sure about the compatibility. Just think the rear glass with the invisible defrost lines (like yours if I remember from ADI, Del) is more attractive than the thick orange elements - which have been enhanced even more after I tinted the glass!

Hi, GPS antenna is the shark fin on the roof, all other aerials are on the rear window. Snapdragon posted a very informative PDF here http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7261
Is it straight forward to remove the trim around the rear window? I'm yet to locate and check the earths on mine. |

4E0 845 501 N is the part number relating to my build spec.
Its for a car with side and rear windows in laminated glass. Interesting ly the PR numbers have nothing to do with TV etc. Also in ETKA the shark fin is for Telephone. It seems that there is different amplifiers depending on your toys. NOTE. if your screen is not the laminated type and your fitting a laminated one then you will need different spacers so the screen sits at the correct height.
