Default Parking Lights. How?

I parked up this afternoon in an area where parking lights would have been good.
Flicked the indicator to the correct side, turned the engine off, locked up and walked away.

No parking lights.
Tried again with the lights off and auto but nothing

On other vags I did the above and it worked fine.

Am I miss something here?

Mine works in Auto - all I ever use is Auto and I use the one-sided parking feature a lot.
It also gives the beep and lights on message on the DIS when exiting the car.
Something must be wrong or the car had been recoded incorrectly.

That's a good shout.

I know I've played about with them before.

I'll take a look tomorrow.

Has anyone got a copy of their coding to hand?

I can confirm scandanavian coding doesn't affect them as I use that betweek october and march to make the rear DRLs come on.

What does changing the last coding digit to '3' (USA) do? I'm out in the US at the moment and seen D3s and D4s that flash the red outer rear brake light units as indicator signals as a pose to using the standard amber lights which we are used to. Can this be coded or is it a different type of lamp for the US cars?

Both my 2004s work as described for single-side marker lights, but neither has DRLs enabled. My understanding is US coding calls for H7 high beams at reduced power as DRLs, if so someone must've changed something...
One car is a very early "2004" (last VIN digits are 011XX, built March 2003 IIRC) but i doubt that has any bearing, since D2s had the same functionality.
